Major resurfacing work to start in Abbeydale

Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways team will be carrying out road repairs on Abbeymead Avenue in Gloucester from Monday.

Road crews will be resurfacing between Monday 5th and Friday 9th October during off peak hours in the daytime. All work will be carried out under traffic light control to keep roads open and road crews safe whilst they work.

Highways teams will resurface over 2,000 metres of road during the works, which are part of the county council’s ongoing commitment to improving Gloucestershire’s roads.

Cllr Vernon Smith, Cabinet member for highways, said; “Improving the roads in the county is an absolute priority for us and having already carried out extensive improvements in the Abbeymead area earlier in the year, I hope these latest works will make a real difference to local people.

“It is really important that we get these works done ahead of the winter months, so I’m pleased we’ve been able to get our crews out to carry out the much needed resurfacing work on Abbeymead Avenue.”

The road improvements are part of wider improvements in the area where local highways funding was used to support other works on The Wheatridge East and Wheatway.

The local member for the Abbey ward, Cllr Andrew Gravells, is pleased to see the works taking place as planned.

He said, “I live in the heart of Abbeydale, and I always listen to what local residents tell me about local issues, including the state of the roads in our area.

“The work may cause some disruption, but please be patient while road crews carry out these repairs. This is good news for Abbeydale and Abbeymead residents, and I know that the improvements will benefit all road users.”
