New home for Gloucester charity as part of new bus station project

The Furniture Recycling Project (FRP), currently based in Grosvenor House next to the bus station, will be moving into the recently vacated ‘Classic Furniture’ store.

With work due to start on the new bus station early in 2016, the council has helped the long running local charity to find new premises.

The first phase of the redevelopment of the bus station will see the Bus Station Café, office blocks and public toilets knocked down to make way for the new station. This included the building the FRP was based in.

Working alongside officers at Gloucester City Council over the last twelve months, FRP was able to find a premises suitable to continue the work they do in the city.

The city council agreed a surrender of lease with Classic Furniture, whose main store is in Wolverhampton, and signed a new lease with FRP for two years.

Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council, said; “We’ve been working with the Furniture Recycling Project (FRP) to find them new premises to enable works on the new bus station to start. They are an important local charity and we want to see their good work continue.

“The FRP has been very supportive of the plans for the new bus station, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to help them find a new location.”

Ian Ellis, chief executive of Gloucestershire Furniture Recycling Project, said; “I’m delighted to have been able to secure the new premises with the help of the city council. Its been a long process, but I’m really happy with the outcome.

“We’ve been in Gloucester for 19 years now, with our 20th Anniversary in August, and I’m excited about our future in the city.

“The development of the bus station will be a welcome addition to the city, and I’m pleased we can be a part of it.”

The Furniture Recycling Project is hoping to start trading from their new premises on Monday 25th.
