letter from your 3 Abbey ward councillors, to the people living around the field which was earmarked for a school

There is some misleading information about the future of the unused land behind the Wheatridge, Georgian Close and Oxmoor , circulating in our area. The land is still owned by the county council, and it hasn’t been sold , nor is it about to be sold .

At the moment , Gloucester City council has a Public Open Space strategy which is the subject of public consultation , as part of the City Plan. This pocket of land is highlighted in that strategy , as it was originally intended to be used for a school by the county council, and it is not now needed for that purpose.

With this consultation in progress, now is the opportunity for you to put forward your ideas for future uses for this area of land. If you believe that it is a positive benefit to the community as public open space then please respond to the consultation saying this .

Abbey is under provided for with Public open space at the moment. When writing in to the consultation it’s also a good opportunity to highlight any other features or benefits here, such as Nature corridors or Public Rights of Way. This consultation is really the start of the process where the City council is looking for feedback from the community regarding potential uses for sites right across the city, and where people can raise any particular issues that they may be aware of.

The next stage of the process (anticipated Spring 2014) will provide more detail for the City Plan, and, if appropriate, set out a policy for the possible , but not definite , development of this site.

We would like as many people as possible to respond to this consultation, so that the City council knows what you would like to see happen to this site in the future. Your views are key, and they will be taken into account .

We have been assured that the City Planners are still happy to accept views on the site , even though technically the deadline has passed . More information can be found at http://www.gloucester.gov.uk/cityplan The Site is called A2.

To respond with your views, you can email spatialplanning@gloucester.gov.uk . The Name of the Area is Land of the Wheatway or Site A2. Please copy us three in as well as we would like to know what people think.

If you prefer to write in , please write to:
