Green man sets up home on Robinswood Hill
For those who frequently visit Robinswood Hill they will have noticed a number of new wooden carved, sculptures appearing.
The latest addition, intended to be called the ‘green man’, was created ‘live’ at the successful Funfest event by wood sculpture Andy O’Neil.
Andy O’Neil the wood sculptor said: “In terms of inspiration I really just went with the flow.
“I was hoping to do a green man, a mythical deity representing rebirth and often associated with spring, but sadly the tree was not quite wide enough, so I took my inspiration from the tree itself.
“The donor tree was one from the Hill which had died, but has now been re-born as this sculpture.
“Essentially it is a spiral of leaves, acorns and branches that draws people around the sculpture getting them to take it in and the environment around them.”
Councillor Colin Organ, cabinet member for housing, health and leisure, Gloucester City Council added:”This is one of a number of sculptures we now have on the Hill.
“We hope it will provide enjoyment for visitors and be a landmark on the Hill allowing people to orientate themselves a little better.
“We have also secured a heritage lottery fund grant to provide a number of further sculptures on the Hill during the next few years, to help provide way marks and to encourage visitors to explore the Hill.”
