Ships Ahoy!
A flotilla of ships will sail into the country’s most inland port between 12 noon and 1pm on Friday 24 May, providing a truly unique vista. The ships first sail into the tidal Severn Estuary and make their way into the city via the Gloucester Sharpness Canal (16 miles as the crow flies). As the ships approach Gloucester Docks, you’ll see the High Orchard Bridge and Llanthony Bridge raised to make room for those tall masts, before mooring in the main basin for the rest of the Festival. We’ll have more news on the ships for you soon.
Boarding Action
Members of the public will be allowed to board the Tall Ships on Saturday and Sunday. Wristbands will be on sale (you can buy them in advance to avoid the expected queues). And the best bit about boarding the ships? If kids are accompanied by an adult with a wristband, they go FREE! The wristbands are valid for the whole weekend and also give entry to the Gloucester Waterways Museum and the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.
There will be living history with Viking longship battles in the main basin with lots more fun activities for the docks site to be announced soon.
