Rotary Club of Gloucester to Support Local Community Groups

The Rotary Community Awards, organised by The Rotary Club of Gloucester, are looking for small, local organisations to support within the City area.   This follows on from the success of the first year  of the Awards in 2015, when 17 groups received grants ranging from £150.00 up to £500.00.

The Rotary Club raises funds through car parking for matches played at Kingsholm using facilities at Imperial Commercial, Mercia Road and Winfield Hospital. Additional funds are raised through The Tree of Light and street and store collections at Christmas.

Here are just some of the views expressed by some of last year’s recipients, describing how the grants have helped make a real difference to their activities:-

“Thanks for your support which has made a positive change.  It was possible to arrange 3 courses in Matson, Barton and Tredworth so 61 disadvantaged people have increased their level of first aid knowledge to enable them to look after loved ones or other members of the public in an emergency.”

The British Red Cross, Gloucester  branch

“We have made immense progress in developing the first football team for deaf players. We now have 17 players and have been asked to help set up a similar group in the Swindon area for around 12 deaf players. We have attracted some funding from Sports Relief. Our aim is to compile a team to play in the National Deaf Cup next season.”

Sofab Sports CIC

“Your generous donation has helped to equip a once derelict space to run parenting courses for parents of children with special needs  and run courses for adults with learning disabilities. We will build on these initiatives in the coming year.”

Kingfisher Treasure Seekers

“We have replaced and replenished outdoor play equipment in 6 local areas, Coney Hill, Linden, Matson, Podsmead,   Tredworth & Tuffley working with 300 people living in these localities.  These facilities improve childhood wellbeing through the transformative power of outdoor play.”
