Rugby World Cup Welcomed
The news that Gloucester is to be a host City for Rugby World Cup 2015 has been greeted with delight.
Months of hard work by the City Council and Gloucester Rugby Club have paid off with the news that Kingsholm will be a venue for four matches in the tournament.
And that means that Gloucester can look forward to welcoming thousands of fans from around the world during the competition.
Council Leader, Paul James, commented: “ This is fantastic news for the City in so many different ways. As an ardent rugby fan I couldn’t be happier that we have been chosen as one of the venues.
“ It also means global exposure for Gloucester through the media and a huge economic boost for the City and surrounding areas.
“We will now be working very hard to promote the tourism aspects that we have to offer and to doubtless welcoming many thousands of visitors.
“We will do everything we can to make them welcome and to ensure they enjoy their visit. We have so much to offer and we will work with all concerned to make sure the City is ready.”
