{"id":413,"date":"2016-04-20T22:23:46","date_gmt":"2016-04-20T21:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.abbeyviews.com\/wordpress\/?p=413"},"modified":"2016-04-20T22:23:46","modified_gmt":"2016-04-20T21:23:46","slug":"robinswood-hill-beacon-shines-bright-for-queens-90th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abbeyviews.com\/wordpress\/?p=413","title":{"rendered":"Robinswood Hill Beacon shines bright for Queen\u2019s 90th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Gloucester City Council will be will be celebrating the Queen\u2019s 90<sup>th<\/sup>birthday this Thursday at 8.30pm by lighting the beacon at the top of Robinswood Hill.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales will also invite Her Majesty The Queen to light the principal beacon on 21<sup>st<\/sup> April at Windsor Castle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">This will be followed by the lighting of a number of beacons along the Long Walk, Windsor Great Park, including one at the Copper Horse, and then over 1,000 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas Territories and Commonwealth Countries to celebrate her landmark birthday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">The Army Cadet Force is taking special gas fuelled beacons to the top of the four highest peaks in the UK:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>. <\/strong>Ben Nevis \u2013 Scotland (1<sup>st<\/sup> Battalion Highlanders Army Cadet Force)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>. <\/strong>Mount Snowdon \u2013 Wales (Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>. <\/strong>Scafell Pike \u2013 England (Cumbria Army Cadet Force)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>. <\/strong>Slieve Donard \u2013 Northern Ireland (2<sup>nd<\/sup> NI Battalion Army Cadet Force)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">The four peak beacons will be lit at 7.30pm, with the rest of the beacons, including Robinswood Hill beacon, all being lit at 8.30pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">The event will be attended by Robert Bernays, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Gloucestershire and Lady Bathurst, the county\u2019s High Sheriff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Gloucester has a rich and deep history with the monarchy of which we are very proud, and lighting the beacon at Robinswood Hill is in recognition and celebration of the Queen\u2019s 90<sup>th<\/sup>birthday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Over the last couple of months communities from across the City have done a great job in supporting Clean for the Queen events across Gloucester and I hope residents enjoy seeing the beacon lit on Thursday evening as we wish the Queen a very Happy Birthday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">The public are very welcome to come along to watch the beacon being lit, but are advised to wear the appropriate clothing and footwear, and be prepared that the descent would be in darkness.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gloucester City Council will be will be celebrating the Queen\u2019s 90thbirthday this Thursday at 8.30pm by lighting the beacon at the top of Robinswood Hill.
