{"id":181,"date":"2013-05-30T16:32:36","date_gmt":"2013-05-30T15:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.abbeyviews.com\/wordpress\/?p=181"},"modified":"2013-05-30T16:32:36","modified_gmt":"2013-05-30T15:32:36","slug":"docks-transformation-is-inspiring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abbeyviews.com\/wordpress\/?p=181","title":{"rendered":"Docks transformation is &#8220;inspiring&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\">\u2018Inspiring\u2019 was the word used by judges to describe the transformation of Gloucester Docks and the development of the Quays area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\">They were the winners in the Area Based Regeneration category at the annual Waterways Renaissance Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Run by the Canal and River Trust the competition celebrates the achievements that benefit canals and rivers across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\">The competition entry charts the change of the area from largely derelict Victorian warehouses to their conversions into flats, offices, shops and restaurants. It outlines the opening of the Quays, the transformation of the public open space and its use as a regular festival venue \u2013 drawing crowds of up to 100,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\">The judges\u2019 comments said: \u201cThis is an inspiring example of sustained brownfield development and how large waterfront land holdings can bring vitality back into an area.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Council Leader, Paul James, added: \u201cThis is a wonderful award to win and recognises the huge amount of thought, planning and investment that has gone into making this area a success and ensuring that it complements the City Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\">\u201c This has all been achieved against the backdrop of a tough economic climate and\u00a0 is a just reward for the hard work of everyone involved.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018Inspiring\u2019 was the word used by judges to describe the transformation of Gloucester Docks and the development of the Quays area.
