27/7/07 Flood Update from the City council

Flood update Friday July 27th

 

· The city council’s emergency centre will be operational over the weekend.

· The contact centre on 01452 396396 will be operational over the weekend

· Three military water tankers are being sent to Gloucester for use at the city council’s discretion and will help to plug essential gaps in water supply.

· Bowsers around the city are now being filled almost three times a day - and this frequency will increase.

· The clean up of property from flood affected premises is continuing and is expected to last until the end of next week. Furniture and other materials are being collected as they are put out. The work is dependent on insurance companies allowing residents to dispose of the items concerned.

· Flood affected roads are all being swept and gulleys cleaned.

· Information on the disposal of plastic bottles has now been issued. Residents are being advised to take them to the plastic recycling banks which are located at the water distribution points when they go to collect fresh supplies. The banks will be emptied as required.

· The bottled water distribution point located as Asda in the city centre has been moved to the former B&Q site immediately next door.

· A total of 4,500 filled sandbags are in reserve at the council’s depot.

· A further 15,000 and a supply of sand are available.

· Portable toilets will be located in the city centre in time for the Saturday ‘Cherry and White’ market in Kings Square.
